I've been fascinated with law for a long while. Took me a bit to get there, but I got there.

One of my memories growing up is my mom telling me how good I was at research. In her opinion I'd make a great paralegal. Pretty sure she was telling me this as I was reaching my teenage years, or in my teenage years. I, at that age, was in the midst of thinking I knew more than her, a common ailment in children at some point, and subsequently laughed her off. I like to think she got the last laugh...

No. I did not become a paralegal. I did, however, get my Associate of Science degree as a paralegal and have worked in law firms. My mother also passed this tidbit of wisdom onto me: Work in an office setting (lawyer, doctor, dentist), as you'll learn skills you can take from job to job. I'm not all that fond of blood, so there went the doctor. Thought a dentist would be boring and figured the lawyer would pay more. Uh... The lawyer didn't pay more, but I did learn valuable skills and found that I enjoyed law. I worked in a couple law firms and as I was getting my degree, discovered how right my mother was about me and research.

Instead of continuing in law as a career, I found myself in food and after working in food for 13 years, I'm returning to law in some fashion. I applied to Michigan State University's Global Food Law program. And... I GOT IN! I anticipate graduating in May 2023. Now, I may not be able to practice law with this degree, but I will have a law degree. And that's just as great.
